Our intention is to synthesize what others are doing, adapt it to our own context, take actions and document our process. This piece may become an essential one for those in interested in skills and capacities for Global Collective Intelligence and Global wisdom-driven organizations.

This notes are a synthesis and mix of the work of Luis Suarez, Chris Brogan, Dave Pollard and my own contributions to contextualize beyond the corporate world. http://www.elsua.net/

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What should email be for?
A communication tool for one on one conversations of a sensitive, private or confidential nature.

Email: Communication, conversation or collaboration tool
There are distinctions among communication, conversation and collaboration. As a communication tool e-mail can be a good thing; however, as a collaboration tool it lacks some of the most significant elements from any kind of collaboration: openness, transparency, taking responsibility & ownership, co-authorship, co-llaborate. Conversation is where want to share/ Build experience and something emerges from it.

General Process:

Analyze the segments and kind of interactions you have. Which are communication, which are collaboration? Are they fellow workers, customers, partners, friends? What kind of new relationships do you expect? What level of communication do you want with new relationships? Which is the hierarchy level?

Decide which social software tools are available for the kind of interaction (communication, collaboration) your are looking for and elaborate a list and practice.

Write an email to your database to share what kind of communication you expect through each channel and how to collaborate with you and/or your organization. Bring clarity and write which channels you will use for what purpose. Remember the distinction in between communication and collaboration.

Encourage people to stop using e-mail themselves and to start using some of these same social software tools as well, to share their knowledge and collaborate with one another.Instead of responding individually to messages that arrived in your in-box, started to use more social networking tools, like instant messaging, blogs and wikis, among many others.Spend time with them to show how you would both work, collaborate and share knowledge in a completely different, but much more productive way.

The rest should be going out there, in the open, in the public space(s), transparent and with an opportunity for everyone to contribute!

There will be a need for educating the people you collaborate/share knowledge with to use/learn the tools that will help enhance and enrich the already existing interactions

For collaboration:

Share and update big files in a file sharing system that cuts down on the back-and-forth of sending big presentations and video files.

Use R.S.S./Atom feed readers, notifications or triggers as primary method of receiving notifications of content relevant to your work and to handle Bacn*. They give control of what you receive and when. It will help you process all of those notifications which tell you the new / updated content available out there, in the open, public spaces, for everyone to digest and process further accordingly. Whereas with e-mail, you are still the one who needs to process everything in a locked, private environment where hardly anyone else has got a say with what you would want to do with that content.

Use an instant messaging tool for short communication

Instant messaging tools can be useful for collaboration if they are part of other tools. Like voice overIP.

Blogs, wiki, forums

For communication:

Use the telephone much more and add a more personal form of interaction.

Use a video conversation tool to avoid spending a lot of time in writting and avoid sync communication times. I am trying http://www.seesmic.com

Email

Twitter and/or identi.ca

Audio replies and conversations. I am trying http://www.evoca.com

*Bacn (pronounced bacon) is the term given to electronic messages which have been subscribed to and are therefore not unsolicited but are often unread by the recipient for a long period of time, if at all. Bacn has been described as email you want but not right now.

Check out: Memorandums to employees by Dave Pollard if you want to see a great email sent to peers for the purpose of using email more effectively.

Check out the next presentation:

TT practice

"Out of the inbox" practice for TheTransitioner

Communication, conversations and collaborations

We see each form as a level where there is a transcendence and inclusion. More complexity, social activity, attention is required as interaction evolves from communication to conversation to collaboration.

Communication

Conversations

Collaboration

Modalities can be one to one, one to many. Mainly not requiring any reply.

Happens mainly in the being.
It can be a preparation to cohere in the doing (collaboration)

We believe that a high percent of our conversations are impersonal. Therefore there should not be left into a closed one to one system (email) if we can do the same effort to release it in the cyberspace where it will have its own life and might create further ripples and might attract synchronistic, purpose-centered connections.

Transcends and includes communication.

Intentions are conversations

Is synchronizing in the doing.

Requires an object-link.
More action, socialware and processes involved according to the complexity.

An outcome is valued.

Distinctions among conversations:

1. In the last 4 years I have integrated a full range of services in the CIWC domain; from design and facilitation of conversations and group processess (vision, innovation, creativity) to voicing the domain of knowledge of collective intelligence (maps, arquitectures, tenents, platforms, processes) to empower groups to collaborate, communicate and learn online (socialware, socialmedia, elearning).

I am a pioneer, constantly in the edge, following the evolutionary impulse, constantly transforming, learning and applying the art of collective being and doing in the world.

I am a joyful mother of a little girl seven years old named Nicole which is a pure light of bliss and love in my life. A core piece of my life is the expansion of the masculine and feminine balance and co-creation. My intention is to be in harmony and move into higher levels of consciousness and wisdom so I can become a powerful vehicle of transformation in the world.

I accept projects based in the next set of criteria:
Social Transformation organizations and communities which integrate serving humanity as part of their doing.
People and organizations midwifing new forms as opposed to fix problems
Organizations willing to become Global Wisdom-driven organizations

Recent projects

In 2006 I began to collaborate with TheTransitioner, an international network of pioneers interested in the field of collective intelligence, wisdom and consciousness. I currently serve as co-founder of the next spiral of evolution for The Transitioner with Jean-François Noubel. TheTransitioner represents the container where all my knowledge, expertise and present comittments can be applied, enhanced and leveraged.

As part of TheTransitioner I serve in different projects:

The Openmoney project where I organized the Open money workshop intensive in Mexico and gardened the online network.

The Shift movie where I am part of the socialmedia strategy to spread the word and empower the people.

The Friendship channel which is a broadcast channel for kids. Still in design. To be launched in 2009.

Worldcafé community where I serve as technology steward, advisor, writer and are currently designing the latinamerica social network.

In 2006 I began the Integral Communities Network (ICON) which vision is to become a vessel for pioneers that serve the human emergence movement in the form of a Sustainable village and a Collective Wisdom Laboratory to serve in circles of inclusion from the local to regional to global. The vision is to empower and midwife the new forms, weather they are environmental, economic, social, spiritual. As part of this initiative my colleague and I did a research on the forces that thwart and sustain communities based on the work of the Integral Institute. This work continues its evolution today. As part of ICON work we are designing and giving tools to empower different community initiatives around the world.

Projects from 1999 to 2005

As an early adopter of Internet marketing I was the Mexico co-founder of 24/7 Realmedia, an international digital marketing company who wanted to open the latinamerican market in 1999.

Searching for new grounds and online relationship building I shifted into elearning where I contributed to implement the Universidad Iberoamericana first online learning system "Iberoonline".

In 2005 I won a contest of the Interamerican development bank (IAB) to develop the elearning model and platform for the Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Publicos (IMCP).This sytem won a prize from the IAB.

By the end of 2005 I decided to make a shift to serve humanity and use my skills for the transformation of consciousness. I began a circle to study the evolution of consciousness where we studied the integral models mainly developed by Ken Wilber.

In 2005 I found my mision on collective intelligence, founded a organization called Being Essence to serve this purpose and got a first project on the development of the largest vision process in Latinamerica with a federation of 19,000 accountants using process arts like worldcafé, openspace, appreciative inquiry and presencing.

Services:

Global collective intelligence

E-learning: Instructional design, platforms and facilitation

Internet-mediated collaboration: Communities of practice, socialware, virtual teams

Communication and networking: Platforms, processes and practices, socialmedia

Community gardener: Prepare fertile soil and grow online communities

Creation of art-objects which use social media tools and outlets as forms of expression, content transmission, expansion and connectivity (relationship and conversations).

Speaker and trainer

Wisdom-driven organizations

Project manager and catalyst of social transformation projects

Currencies herald and connector (Visualize wealth generation through the use of multiple currencies)

Catalize teams for Social transformation projects (team natural design, governance, currency systems, wisdom-driven organization principles, wisdom technologies and practices, global collective intelligence practices for the inner team and its communication with the outside world)

Collective intelligence

Facilitator, Process artist (design and facilitate conversation processes through the use of social technologies like worldcafé, open space, presencing, appreciate inquiry. Two of them are particularly relevant for understanding how technology intersects with communities.

First, a community implies an experience of togetherness that extends through time and space. The continuity of togetherness is what creates the community but it is experienced by members in a rhythm of specific activities located in time and space. Separation in time and space then creates a dilemma for communities.
How can we experience togetherness even though we cannot be together face-to-face?
How can the togetherness of a few members (a meeting, a conversation) be made part of the experience of the whole community? One critical role of technology then is to provide new resources for making togetherness more continuous in spite of separation in time and space.

A second tension involves the relationship between communities and individuals. Togetherness is a property of communities, but it is something that is generated and experienced by individual members.

Communities experience these tensions in many activities that are often mediated, supported, or enhanced by technology. These include:

Interacting: To discuss issues, agree and disagree, brainstorm, work on tasks, ask and answer questions, etc., members need to connect, in and across time and space.

Publishing: To produce, share, and collect artifacts that are relevant to their practice, members need to organize communal repositories as well as individual access to them.

Tending: To nurture their togetherness, members need to find ways to participate personally as well as cultivate their community. This requires being able to see the community as community:understanding its pulse, its forms of participation, its evolving structure, its emerging roles, and its changing interests and needs.

classified tools into four (classic time/place taxonomy)
quadrants: same time/same place, same time/different place, same place/different time and different place/different time

Configuring technology
Defining a technology configuration for a community is not a linear process that can be prescribed in a step-by-step fashion. It has many loops, intricacies, and iterations that depend on the circumstances and

COLLABORATIVE TECHNOLOGY
What is a collaborative technology?

The use of a technology to support the construction of communal ways of seeing, acting and knowing.

Collaboration allows a community of communicators to reconstruct a shared experience continually in order to produce greater meaning and greater potential for successful future action.

A community of practice has collaborated to generate a common, shared understanding of events and an action orientation for dealing with such events the next time they arise.

A collaborative technology is one publicly used "in a shared perceptual space" to develop shared resolutions to problematic experience. The technology becomes an instrument of mutual knowledge construction for a group of people.

The goal of a collaborative technology: the construction of communal ways of seeing, acting and knowing.

A collaborative technology is a tool that enables individuals to jointly engage in active production of shared knowledge.
Configuration-level considerations. The technology configuration has to reflect the constitution of the
community, its stage of development, and its diversity.

Where are the members located? Over what time-zone spread? How much face-to-face access does
the community have?

What kind of internet access do they have? What are the baseline technologies they already use?

What are the skill levels? How comfortable are they with technology? What is the range?

What are the needs of various constituencies, such as more or less engaged members or members
with different degrees of familiarity with and access to technology? What resources are available for
developing technology skills?

What is the linguistic and cultural diversity of the group?

What is the likelihood that members will form sub-communities and other types of subgroups? Does
this suggest a “space of spaces”?

Tool-level considerations.
Communities tend to engage in a complex set of activities to support the
various ways members learn with and from each other. What is the range of activities the community
needs to engage in?

What types of ongoing interactions? What types of events and meetings?
How much need to bridge between synchronous and asynchronous interactions?
Will interactions be more focused on group processes or on individual contributions?
What artifacts will they share? How will these be organized and archived?
Who will tend to the perspective of the community? What information will they need about the health
of the community? What actions will they need to take?
How will members manage their participation? Find their way around? Connect with others?
Mapping activities to tools is not necessarily a one-to-one mapping. Some activities may require multiple tools; a meeting, for example, may require a calendar, a phone bridge, a web-based presentation, and chat. Conversely some tools may support multiple types of activities, such as polling, which can be used to make decisions, schedule meetings, or reflect on the community’s health. Still, given the breadth of potentially useful tools shown in Figure 3, it is important to conduct an analysis of existing or desirable activities to delineate the set of tools to include.

Feature-level considerations. Not all tools for the same activity are created equal. They have features
that define their usability. Addressing this level of detail is important because usability is key.
What do the features of a tool try to accomplish? How are they implemented? Can the tool be used in
different ways?
Does the implementation of the feature set support the specific way a community conducts an activity? To what extent is the tool adaptable? Can it be tweaked and configured by the user, by the
technology steward, or by a skilled technologist? Can some features be turned off so as to make the technology more accessible in the beginning?

These considerations require an understanding not only of the range of activities but also of how a
community conducts these activities. Again the point is not to go for the maximum number of features, but to understand how certain features meet the needs of a community or how the lack of a feature
constitutes a specific problem because of the way the community operates. These feature-oriented
considerations have to balance functionality and flexibility with simplicity and learnability.

Platform-level considerations. Comparing candidates for inclusion in the technology configuration also requires some analysis of the platform as a product to be acquired, deployed, and used.
How compatible is the platform with other tools the community or its members use?

Twitter

Its so easy...any pioneer can do it.

First is, what is twitter?

My essential tools

50 Ideas on Using Twitter for Business by Chris Brogan

Holoptigirl

Strategies for the holoptigirl

Balance in between individual voice and collaboration.

Find my individual voice (spanish? / english?).

Holopticism: definition

Holopticism, is a combination of the Greek words holos (whole, holistic,
holography...), optiké (vision) and tekhné (art, technique). It consists
of a physical or virtual space where the architecture has been
intentionally designed to provide the players with the faculty to see
and perceive the whole of what happens. It is differentiated from
panopticism? where the architecture is intentionally made to offer a
centralized and total vision to a power that gets its omnipotence from
it (Michel Foucault? - Discipline and Punish).

A 'holoptical' space: the spatial proximity gives each participant a
complete and ever updated perception of this Whole. Each player, thanks
to his/her experience and expertise, refers to it to anticipate his/her
actions, adjust them and coordinates them with the actions of the
others. Therefore there is an unceasing round trip, a feedback loop that
works like a mirror between the individual level and the collective one.

We define holopticism as this set of properties, that is the
'horizontal' transparency (perception of the other participants), and
the 'vertical' communication with the emerging Whole. In the examples
above, the conditions of holopticism are given by physical 3D space; our
natural organic senses then serve as interfaces. The role of a coach, or
an external observer, consists in encouraging the conditions for
holopticism.

Simple actions for reducing email

Notes from: http://www.chrisbrogan.com/inbox-taming-for-busy-people/

Basic Move: Have Three Addresses
1. For conducting general business2. for signing up for various web applications,
3. For more important conversations.

The first two, I don’t check all day long. I have a few scheduled dips in those boxes to see where things are, and to respond to inquiries. On one of those boxes, I used AwayFind to give people the sense that they can reach me if it’s urgent.
On the third email, that’s my business. And so I keep a little indicator light. I don’t read them immediately all the time and interrupt my flow, but I empty that box a few times a day.
Process Once I get Mail
I’ve noticed that I have a rapid flow. Here’s how it looks:

Information only mail - absorb and delete.

Information I need mail - copy a note into Evernote, which has web access and searching capabilities. Delete.

Requests for help - analyze and respond. Delete (or store if I need a record).

Mail from the boss - respond and store.

“Generic” mail - automate variations on a response, and customize the important bits. Delete. Note: you probably never get the generics. I reserve them for blind PR pitches, weird software companies, etc.

Scheduling and task request mail - right into Google Calendar. Tasks into a Google Docs spreadsheet. Web-accessible.

To-do mail that’s bigger and long - copy/paste the request into Evernote, store the email address, save the mail.

This CD has been highly recommended to reduce the inbox size:
http://www.chrisbrogan.com/inbox-taming-for-busy-people/

Socialmedia

NOTES for developing a way to transmit socialmedia to my intimate circle of evolutionary friends

Review and remake according to my expected audience.

Two key concepts for staying sane in socialmedia (by puck)

Forms of collective intelligence

Synthesis from Tom Atlee's work on the forms of collective intelligence

REFLECTIVE (dialogic) CI - People think together, using dialogue and deliberation. They find and share information, critique logic and assumptions, explore implications, create solutions and mental models together. Their diversity, used well, helps them overcome blind spots, ignorance, and stuckness. They see a bigger, more complete picture with more complexity and nuance, and develop better outcomes than they could alone.
STRUCTURAL (systemic) CI - Social systems are built that support intelligent behaviors on the part of the system as a whole and/or all its members. For example, the Bill of Rights supports creativity, free flow of information, and maintenance of diversity -- all of which support collective intelligence. Chairs placed in circles support equity and sharing in ways impeded by chairs placed in rows.
EVOLUTIONARY (learning-based) CI - Organisms, species, ecosystems, and cultures are made of patterns of relationship that have "worked" over long periods. These co-evolved, built-in success-patterns contain embedded wisdom often used automatically, but which are also available for analysis and deeper learning. We can look at them as manifestations of learning -- or perhaps of "evolving coherence." Evolving coherence is perhaps most consciously pursued in the careful, grounded, ongoing collective inquiries of science, but we can also find it in any shared learning effort, an endeavor institutionalized in academia.
INFORMATIONAL (communication-based) CI - The flow of information through communication channels and the widespread gathering and persistent availability of information in databases (including libraries, newspapers, etc., as well as the Web) means that knowledge that is created or recorded in one place and time is available to others in other places and times. Universal access to information informs the activities of diverse, dispersed people beyond their individual data-gathering capacities. In society, this form of collective intelligence has been aided in the last century by telecommunications and computer technologies, as it was centuries ago by the invention of printing.
NOETIC (spiritual or consciousness-based) CI - Certain realms of human experience and cosmic reality are accessible primarily through altered/higher states of consciousness or esoteric practices. Psychic phenomena, the Akashic Record, the collective unconscious, group consciousness, the Maharishi effect, the Universal Mind, the Authentic Self, etc., all involve noetic realities with collective dimensions which offer insight, guidance, energy or power to those who can tap them. All these phenomena are grounded in "consciousness," so we need to remember that "intelligence" is the capacity to learn new things and solve challenging problems. So the term "collective intelligence" may be most appropriately applied to the noetic mode when these higher/deeper realms are accessed by a group together such that the group's subsequent understanding and activity are demonstrably intelligent.
FLOW (mutual attunement-based) CI - When the boundaries between individuals vanish, become permeable, or fade into relationship or shared enterprise, a collective can think, feel, respond and act as one entity. This "group magic" is exemplified by -- and experienced in -- intense dialogue groups, high-functioning human teams and non-human collectives like flocks of birds. Basic forms of flow or flocking behavior are achieved by individuals following simple rules about their relationship to those around them, setting aside independence in the realms covered by the rules. More complex, creative forms of flow occur when conscious, distinct individuals are so attuned to each other that they can innovate and express their uniqueness in thoroughly appropriate/embedded ways, as with jazz improvisation. Flow can be understood as dissolving the boundaries, barriers and embattledness of individualism (ego) in order to better tap the powerful essence of individuality (true uniqueness and individual capacity) in the context of collective activity.
STATISTICAL (crowd-oriented) CI - In the presence of a goal, intention, inquiry or direction -- and no skewing factors (e.g., deceit) -- a high enough number of individuals will generate a remarkable level of collective problem-solving or predictive power, even in the absence of communication among them. This has been demonstrated in many cases of mass guessing, where the average guessed solution has proven superior to over 90% of the individual guesses. This can also be seen in ants whose almost random foraging is capable of rapidly finding food that can then be collectively accessed in very focused ways.
RELEVATIONAL (emergence-based) CI - "Relevation" is a term coined by quantum physicist and dialogue innovator David Bohm. It names the dynamic through which phenomena emerge (elevate) from potentiality (Bohm's "implicate order") into actuality (Bohm's "explicate order") by reason of their relevance to existing reality. Our inquiries and intentions can attract insights and solutions, often seemingly "out of nowhere." As a form of collective intelligence this may be most vividly displayed by one person saying something and another person mis-hearing it in a way that provides them with some answer or insight. The answer, which was never spoken, relevated out of the space between them, drawn into existence by the second person's desire to know that answer.

What about audio

Great feedback on audio communications :

I think we are all aligned with and can sense the interesting shift in our experience of the intention and value of how we can use our voice, and how we can listen and receive auditory communications in this asynchronous format. And, there are also the challenges of how the communication is remembered by the receiver, stored and organized - particularly for follow-up. I sense the deeper core essence of sharing one's being, which we know has a value that cannot be measured. The challenges or limitations, at a, call it, productive level, are not having the points that were covered in the communication written down for reference at a later time. Either the listener has to take notes, make a to-do list while listening, or take action immediately, or perhaps the sender of the message could add a written 'outline' or bullet points for follow-up. Also, the message is received in a different "place" than communications via email, so there is an organizational integration issue there too. But again, I know this is experimentation and this different level, focus (being rather than doing) and quality of communication are the possible new horizons we have to look forward to.

Clerking
Self-clerking: Responsability to voice, Being disciplined, expression of our needs be responsable for what one feels and voice it, sense of readiness and movement, being the center (aware of the field horizontally), speak from the center (verticality).

Clerk may shift the architecture

Talk from the center
Sense of motion (move the energy)
Reflecting back (we)
Statements of emergence

Agreements (for the little collective body in France jun 08)

Impecable personal architecture (mastery)
Clerking and the six agreements as default
Collective clerking with talking objects
Six agreements transformed to serve our needs
Name guardians for certain pieces (stewardship for our passion)
Streamlined open space

Personal architecture (UL in the ppp)
How much can one be itself without deeply shaping the experience of the group in a potentially limiting way?
When is it ok to shape?
Don`t overevaluate. From the protons which in their desire for an electron formed a circle that produced something never imagined; the atom. We have 14 billion years of surprises, much has happened since the atom, living processes continued their journey, evolution continued to discover how to organize cooperative groups every time more complex. We can all recognize what it means to have the capacity for experience, sensing, environment stimulation, correspondence, attraction and repulsion which are essential qualities which contribute to the organization, to the cooperation in between simple unities (quarks and molecules) up to the most complex (human beings) that conform our universe. Its manifestation in society was our capacity to move from the clan to tribes to villages to nation-states and from there to the possibility of expansion in a global scale, or is it universal?

In the heart of evolution we find communion, movement to more interdependence and cooperation. Human beings, conscious of consciousness search for quality in experience, rythm, creative action, synergy, flow. We long for it to be in groups, in collectives where we can 'operate' from source, in favor of the discovery of our highest potential.

Worldcafé contributes to this goal. Within the discovery of a new story, in the support of a transition that threats life to one that is life-affirming. Worldcafé helps us to elevate the perception of ourselves and our sense of purpose. Same that builds to the intention for organizing an event for the 'latin palomilla' of Worldcafé in april 2008. Its virtue is the exploration of 'how to create a culture of dialogue in latinamerica'. A noble and necessary effort in this crucial time in human history where we are searching for global sustainability within this evolutionary spiral that leads towards more cooperation and unity.

Carlos Morán from the Mexican academy of engineering tells us -Interdialogue is the key in between couples, families, industries, society, parties. In between children, parents and the educators. In between all instances of human interaction. Quality in dialogue makes a huge difference. In order to face our current global problems it is a priority to build a society which honors a culture of dialogue-. Let´s make a first pause, what does it mean quality in dialogue?

The voices of the palomilla give us several components like: define spaces of listeting (safe containers), the capacity to integrate perspectives, beliefs, forms of being/doing. The skills to hold difficulty in a moment and transcend it. Conscious communication that emerges from ways of listening which are creative instead of reactive. An AHA! moment was to talk about agreements, and how the goal of a dialogue shouldn´t necessarily be to reach an agreement but the opportunity for a larger understanding of the perspective and truth of the other as a way of respect to his/her freedom and expression. The questions which emerge in me are, which of the named capacities are collective? which ones begin in the individual?. If we don´t seek agreement then, how can we hold the creative tension in favor of the emergence of something new?

The limitations are sometimes invisible to the non-trained eyes. Invisible architectures like language, mental models, worldviews and the function of the mind/brain itself. Let me give you an example. In the most recent report of the Institute of noetic sciences called 'Changing the story of our future', which thoroughly explores our capacities for change, I read about a group of scientists which presented to a sample of republicans and democrats a series of contradictory statements made by both John Kerry and George Bush and asked each group to rate how contradictory those statements were. Scientist were measuring the participants brain activity while this occured. In the results they didn't see any increased activation of the parts of the brain normally engaged during reasoning. What they saw is a network of emotional circuits lighting up! It seems that the brain can learn very little from new data whenbeliefs are challenged. The participants were literally censoring their cognitive dissonance. This findings tell us a lot about the need for skills in conscious communication to benefit any collective we as individuals which to contribute to. Carlos Mota names something vital -There are inner walls we need to break. They are not easy to see. They hurt more-.

Lets continue with our exploration of the event and listen to the voice of Guadalupe Martinez de León from the University of Monterrey and member of the latin palomilla which makes a powerful description - Quality in dialogue allows for the magic of collectivity, which is aligned to human will, to emerge-. This experience was widely expressed during our time together.

When we asked Juanita Brown about the unique contribution of Latinamerica to the Global Worldcafé she answered - What Mexico and Latinamerica can give is that this latin cultures really understand what magic is, magic in conversation, with truth, authenticity; like the one we have when we take coffee with our families. This kind of authenticity, intimacy, human warmth can be a large contribution to other cultures which are colder. In latinamerica we dialogue with pleasure, joy and sense of human warmth. The latins can offer this soul, heart, hoy and expression so unique of latin cultures.

There was fullness and exceptional moments within the fire of divergence, where the presence was profound, the voices said -this is real-, this is what we have to hold and transcend. We are a microcosmos of what we see outside. Carlos Mota speaks about two possibilities in the face of disagreements; either to collapse the process or right in the boundary generate creativity. He reminds us that this is the moment to create those capacities that will help us in facing any possible scenarios. He gives us the question -do I have what I want to give?-.

There are many moments to relate. One day and a half expanded showing us the relativeness of time. When we focus, the possibilities to generate open and time contributes with a slow step. This event was a deep breath in the history of Worldcafé. A door for latinamerica.

There is enough evidence to say that a transformation in global scale is in its way. Our future awaits us. Lets hold the lessons of evolution where communion, cooperation and diversity have been leading the creation of new forms impossible to imagine. Lets favor dialogue and conscious communication as a process for our creative explosion in favor of human potential and a glorious future for generations to come.

Fernanda Ibarra
Collective intelligence agent
Catalyst of evolutionary projects

More about me: http://luvina.gaia.com

The definition of “crowd” is “a group of people united by a common characteristic.” By contrast, collective intelligence is diminished by too many common characteristics. It flourishes in direct proportion to the amount of diversity contained within a group of people, and their ability to express their individual viewpoints. In order to be wise, so to speak, the crowd can’t act like a crowd at all.

There are other conditions that must be met for diversity to trump ability:

It must be a real pickle of a problem.

The crowd must have some qualifications to solve the problem at hand.

There must also be some method of aggregating and processing each individual’s contributions.

Participants must be drawn from a large enough pool to guarantee a diverse array of approaches and their ability to express their individuality—their “local knowledge”—must not be impaired.

I find that one key to potentiate the emergence of ideas and collective intelligence by honoring diversity resides in the hability for conscious communication. Listening to someone speak is ok until you don´t agree. Then the voice of judgement appears and empathic listening disappears. Even with the right dialogue process the individual skills are much needed. Expressing disagreement by not reacting or wanting to convince the other. Listen in a generative way. Letting the creative tension to arise in us as we are able to respect the truth of the other...mmmm...my experience is that when this happens then you can see the other, value the contribution and as you named 'ideas might mingle, evolve and spark new worlds. Generative listening is listening for surprises, for what you don´t know, for possibilities.

In the recent report of the institute of noetic sciences called 'Changing the story of our future', which thoroughly explores our capacities for change, I read about a group of scientists which presented to a sample of republicans and democrats a series of contradictory statements made by both John Kerry and George Bush and asked each group to rate how contradictory those statements were. The participants were literally censoring their cognitive dissonance. This findings tell us a lot about the need for individual skills in conscious communication to benefit any collective you desire to empower.

Governance also seems a keyword here. We certainly know by now that consensus in not the only tool available for decision-making. So which are the best tools? For which context?
